1. Tamrat Assefa Liban – Managing Partner

Tamrat Assefa is the managing partner at Tamrat Assefa Liban Law Office. Tamrat is a graduate of Addis Ababa University and a holder of a master’s degree in International Trade Law from the University of Turin and Turin School of Development.

Tamrat advises clients in various areas of practice with an emphasis in commercial law, mining and energy lay tax law, international finance, banking and intellectual property law. Tamrat’s experience includes advising Société de Promotion et de Participation pour la Coopération Economique S.A. (PROPARCO) in connection with financing the construction of a Pullman Hotel in Ethiopia, advising, together with a London-based firm, the developer of a $2 Billion geothermal project in Ethiopia, advising Finnish Fund for Industrial Cooperation Ltd in relation with the financing of a furniture business in Ethiopia, advising a Luxembourg satellite company on its corporate matters in Ethiopia, advising a German multinational company in connection with a carve –out sale of its business and various other international companies.

He is a member of the Ethiopian Bar Association and the International Bar Association.


2. Marina Bwile - Director

Marina Bwile graduated from the University of Nairobi with an LLB Degree in 2004.

Marina was admitted as an advocate of the High of Kenya in 2005 and started her legal career in niche commercial practice in Kenya. Before joining this firm, she was working at one of the leading law firms in Ethiopia dealing with matters related to investment law, banking & finance, intellectual property law, aviation and commercial law generally. She has particular expertise inbanking & finance, commercial law and international trade law (including provision of professional advice to foreign investors from entry – registration, licensing, obtaining of permits and consents, to exit – dissolution, deregistration and repatriation of profits and sale of proceeds from the liquidation process). Marina also has an LLM in International Trade Law from the University of Turin. She currently manages the Intellectual Property Department.

She is a member of the Law Society of Kenya and the International Bar Association.


3. Mekdem Belayneh Woldesselassie- Lawyer

Graduated from Addis Ababa University in the year 2000 and has two Master of Laws degrees, one in Commercial Law from the University of South Africa and another in Constitutional Law from the Addis Ababa University.

He is active in litigation and was one of the key participants in the implementation of the Ethiopian Nile Irrigation and Drainage Project, which involved, among other things, a detailed review of applicable laws, acts, and proclamations of Government of Ethiopia, Amhara region and also of World Bank Operational Policies. Furthermore, he has been a local consultant in a United Nations Development Program project for the preparation of a five year strategic plan for the Ethiopian Office of the Ombudsman carried out by a consulting group called Emhazee Global Consult.

He is a member of the Ethiopian Bar Association.


4. Eshetu Ergete- Lawyer

Eshetu has worked for 24 years in the Ethiopian legal system. Since he received a certificate in law from the training institute of the Ministry of Justice in 1989 he has served as district prosecutor in various locality of the capital Addis Ababa. After he graduated in law from the Civil Service College of Ethiopia in 2002 Eshetu has served as a prosecutor at the Federal High Court until he left the service. Eshetu has been admitted to private practice by the Ministry of Justice in 2004 and has been handling various litigation matters both criminal defense and civil cases. Litigation involves liaising with various government offices involved in registration and licensing and he has sufficient experience with the system.


5. Malefiya Tesera - Lawyer

A graduate of law from Hawassa University (as an outstanding student of the year) and has masters of laws degree in Comparative Constitutional law, from Central European University. He has lectured law at Arba Minch University School of law, since 2011. Particularly, he has taught various public and commercial law courses. In addition, he has worked as research and Community service coordinator of the school. He is also licensed in Southern Nations, Nationalities, and Peoples' Region, one of the nine ethnic based States in Ethiopia, and has handled various labour, commercial and criminal cases.
